There are a few different types of blinds that are Eco-friendly which I will go over in another post, but in this article I am going to concentrate on roller blind fabrics that are made from 100% recycled ocean plastic.
You are probably aware that there is a growing plastic crisis in our oceans but did you know that approximately 8 MILLION METRIC TONS OF PLASTIC ENTER OUR OCEANS EVERY YEAR?
By 2050 it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the Ocean than fish (by weight).
It is clear that the crisis is not going to get better if it is left and it certainly is not just going to disappear overnight as if by magic. We cannot just leave this major ecological disaster as it is and therefore we must do everything in our power to reduce the amount of plastic we are putting into our oceans and indeed do everything we can to remove plastic that that is already in the oceans. It is important that we all play our part in the fight against plastic and that is why we believe that our environmentally friendly blinds can play an important part in this.
Our Eco-friendly roller blind fabrics are made from 100% recycled ocean plastic, this means that for every 2m² of our Eco-friendly blind fabric, it will contain the equivalent of approximately 14 water bottles or 785 straws. This may not seem like much but it will need just over 3000 average size blinds to remove 1 TON of plastic from our oceans. This would be an incredible achievement and a significant step in working to remove plastic from our oceans.
The great thing about our recycled plastic roller blind fabrics are that they are not majorly different from any other roller blinds either, they are just as aesthetically pleasing and come in a range of different colours. Our Eco-friendly roller blinds are basically a 5% openness screen fabric, but that is made from 100% recycled ocean plastic. It is even certified to prove that it is a safe, sustainable product. It can even be fully recycled again if you want to change the blinds in a few years’ time.
Another great feature of our Eco-friendly roller blinds are that they are fully flame retardant so that they can be installed in commercial premises and public buildings as well as homes which helps offices and other business to be more sustainable and to play their part in helping to turn the tide in the plastic crisis in every way possible.
Another very important feature of our Eco-friendly blinds, and a reason why they are so sustainable is that many blind companies reduce the sustainability of the blinds by using a non-recyclable plastic for the bottom bar whereas we always use fully recyclable Aluminium barrels and bottom bars to ensure that our Eco-friendly roller blinds have the smallest impact on the environment as possible.
If everyone plays their part and does what they can, then we can start to make headway in the war against plastic, by doing maybe even the smallest things and buying the least likely of products in the most environmentally friendly and sustainable way then it will help to preserve our ecosystems for the future.
